Silvano Piovanelli, Italian Roman Catholic cardinal, Died at 92


Silvano Piovanelli was born on February 21, 1924, and died on July 9, 2016.

He was an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church.

Silvano served as Archbishop of Florence from 1983 to 2001, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1985.

Following an 18-year-long tenure, Piovanelli retired as Archbishop on March 21, 2001.

Piovanelli lost the right to participate in a papal conclave upon reaching the age of 80 on February 21, 2004.

He died in his sleep.

Silvano Piovanelli passed away at 92 years old.
