Walter Hautzig was born on September 28, 1921, in Vienna, Austria and died on January 30, 2017.
He was a pianist and teacher.
He studied at Public and High School in Vienna, and the Vienna Academy of Music.
Hautzig left Austria after the rise of the Nazis to power, and went to Jerusalem and studied at the Conservatory there.
During 1939, Hautzig came to the USA, continued his musical education at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with Harry Kaufmann and Mieczysław Munz
He graduated with honors.
Hautzig also studied privately in New York with Artur Schnabel.
During 1943, Hautzig won the Town Hall Endowment Award in New York.
Walter Hautzig made his debut at Town Hall in New York in October 1943.
During October 1950, he married author Esther Rudomin.
Together, they had two children, David Hautzig and Deborah Hautzig.
Walter Hautzig passed away at 95 years old.
