Storm Flag Flying was born on April 11, 2000, at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, died January 22, 2016.
She was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse.
The American-bred horse was a bay mare bred in Kentucky by her owner Ogden Mills Phipps.
In the year 2002, she won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies(Grade I), a race her dam won in 1995.
Storm Flag Flying at ‘Grade I’ won the Frizette Stakes and Matron Stakes (Grade I) in her championship two-year-old season.
The horse’s performances that year earned her the Eclipse Award for Outstanding 2-Year-Old Filly.
Aside for six months, in her 3-year-old debut Storm Flag Flying finished a second to Cyber Secret in the Comely Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack.
In the Acorn Stakes Storm Flag Flying basically refused to run, finishing next to last.
Her leg injury she sustained ended her 2003 racing season.
She had a rebounded in 2004, winning important races including a victory over Azeri in the Grade I Personal Ensign Handicap(the race named for her Hall of Fame champion grandmother) and the Shuvee Handicap.
There was bad luck in the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Distaff saw Storm Flag Flying running dead last midway through the race.
After she finally broke through the horses in front of her she made a strong run down the stretch but finished 2nd after she ran out of ground before she could catch the winner, Ashado.
Storm Flag Flying was retired to broodmare service at Claiborne Farm at the end of her racing career.
Storm Flag Flying was the dam of 2 winners out of 5 starters.
Her filly’s include: a 2006 A.P. Indy colt named Colors Flying, 2010 Smart Strike filly named Beat the Drums, 2011 Unbridled’s Song filly named Sea Trial, 2012 Street Cry filly named Playtime, 2013 Candy Ride colt named Revved Up, and 2015 Street Cry colt named Strident.
