Stephen de Mowbray was born on August 15, 1925, and died on October 4, 2016.

He was a counterintelligence officer in Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6).

After he served in the Fleet Air Arm in World War II, he studied for a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) at New College, Oxford.

Mowbray became convinced that the then head of MI5, Sir Roger Hollis, was a Soviet spy.

During 1950, he joined MI6, serving variously in Baghdad, Montevideo, and Washington DC.

Stephen retired in 1979.

Stephen married twice, firstly to Tamsin Giles, daughter of yachtsman Laurent Giles, and secondly to banker Patricia White.

Stephen de Mowbray passed away at 91 years old.
