Shūgorō Nakazato, Japanese martial artist, Died at 96

Shūgorō Nakazato was born on August 14, 1920, and died on August 24, 2016.

He was a Japanese martial artist.

Reported the writer Mark Bishop, “described as a “one punch artist” by some of his American students, Nakazato developed his karate sparring into a fine fighting art.”

Shūgorō gave many demonstrations on the Japanese mainland, as well as abroad and had “many well-known students in the USA” including Tadashi Yamashita.

Shūgorō was also designated an “intangible cultural asset holder” 沖縄県指定無形文化財保持者 (おきなわけんしていむけいぶんかざいほじしゃ Okinawa-ken shitei mukeibunkazai hojisha?) by Okinawa Prefecture in 2000.

Shūgorō was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, 5th Class with Gold and Silver Rays on November 4, 2007.

Shūgorō Nakazato passed away at 96 years old.
