Salma Siddiqui was born on June 18, 1931, in Varanasi and died on February 13, 2017.
She was an Indian novelist in the Urdu language and a prominent member of the Progressive Writers’ Movement.
Salma’s father Rashid Ahmad Siddiqui was an educationist and professor.
Salma Siddiqui studied Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University, obtaining an MA.
Salma Siddiqui taught for a time at Women’s College in Aligarh.
Siddiqui’s first marriage ended early, and in 1957, she married Krishan Chander in Nainital.
Together they settled in Bombay in 1962.
Additionally, Kausar Munir, a lyricist, and poet that was known for the songs in the Hindi film Ishaqzaade is Siddiqui’s granddaughter.
Salma Siddiqui passed away at 85 years old.
