Ramón Carlin, Mexican yachtsman, Died at 92

Ramon Carlin was born in 1924 and died in 2016.

He was a Mexican businessman.

He made his fortune manufacturing washing machines and other goods.

He was a winner of the first edition of the race around the world Volvo Ocean Race in 1974.

His boat was a brand 65 – foot Swan sailboat.

Ramón went ahead to race with a small crew of unprofessional sailors, on the boat with the name of Sayula II, in honor of the town where his wife was born in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.

In that series of the race, three sailors died at sea.

However, the weather conditions were so adverse that even Sayula II was overturned by a wave of 12 meters, and later re – enter and stay in the competition.

Ramón Carlin passed away at 92 yrs old.
