Michele Scarponi was born on September 25, 1979, and died on April 22, 2017.
He was an Italian road bicycle racer.
Scarponi was a known rider between 2002 and 2017 for the Acqua e Sapone–Cantina Tollo, Domina Vacanze–Elitron, Würth, Acqua & Sapone–Caffè Mokambo, Androni Giocattoli, Lampre–Merida and Astana teams.
Michele was declared the winner of the 2011 Giro d’Italia after the disqualification of Alberto Contador.
Some of his other major results of his career were the 2009 Tirreno–Adriatico, the 2011 Volta a Catalunya and the 2011 Giro del Trentino stage races.
He was married to Anna (née Tommasi), and two children, twin boys Giacomo and Tommas.
Michele died when he was hit by a truck near his home in Filottrano, in the Italian region of Marche.
Michele Scarponi passed away at 37 years old.
