Michael Hugh Tempest Sheringham was born in 1948 and died on January 21, 2016.

He was an English literary academic.

He was Marshal Foch Professor of French Literature at the University of Oxford from 2004 until his retirement in 2015.

Michael was also a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford.

Mr. Sheringham previously taught at the University of Kent (where he was Professor of French Literature from 1992 to 1995) and at Royal Holloway, the University of London (where he was Professor of French from 1995 to 2004).

Michael was appointed a Fellow of the British Academy in 2010.

Michael Sheringham passed away at 68 yrs old.
