Malian politician, Mahamadou Djeri Maïga, Died at 46

Mahamadou Djeri Maïga (alias Mohamed Jerry Maïga or Mahamadou Maiga Djeri) died on October 22, 2018.

He was the Vice-President of the Transitional Council of the State of Azawad.

The Transitional Council of the State of Azawad was established by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA).

When the MNLA lost the control of Northern Mali to Islamist groups, Mahamadou Djeri Maïga fled to Niger.

He was a member of the Songhai ethnic group, one of the dominant ethnic groups in northern Mali.

The position he held in the movement symbolizes the inclusion of other ethnic groups in the fight for self-determination hitherto the reserve of the tuaregs.

Mahamadou Djeri Maïga passed away at 46 years old.
