John Cummings, British politician, Died at 73


John Scott Cummings was born on July 1943, in Newcastle upon Tyne, and died on January 4, 2017.
He was a British Labour Party politician.
He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Easington from 1987 until 2010.
He was a fifth-generation coal miner, he was educated at the Murton Council Infant and Junior schools on Watt Street and Secondary school.
John Cummings attended both the Easington Technical College and the Durham Technical College until 1962.
Cummings started his career with the National Coal Board as a miner in 1958, becoming a pit electrician from 1967 until his election to parliament twenty years later.
John Cummings was single and Roman Catholic, Cummings represented a parliamentary constituency which can boast both the former Prime Minister Ramsay Macdonald, and Manny Shinwell, one of the longest-lived parliamentarians, as previous MPs.
John Cummings passed away at 73 years old.
