Gunnel Vallquist, Swedish writer and translator, Died at 97


Gunnel Vallquist was born on June 19, 1918, in Stockholm and died on January 11, 2016.

She was a Swedish writer and translator.

She was elected member of the Swedish Academy in 1982.

Gunnel was a member of the Catholic Church.

She has written several essays on Catholic religion of contemporary times, among them, reports from the Second Vatican Council.

Gunnel Vallquist translated the seven-piece novel In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust into Swedish (started in 1965, completed in 1982).

Gunnel Vallquist passed away at 97 yrs old.
