Denis Atkins was born on November 8, 1938 in Bradford and died on September 13, 2016.

He was a professional English footballer

Atkins played as a defender for Huddersfield Town and Bradford City during his 12-year career between 1959 and 1971.

He was a full back.

He worked through the ranks of Huddersfield Town. He made his debut in February 1960 when he gave away a penalty in a 1–1 draw with Sunderland.

Denis ended up playing for 13 years at Huddersfield playing in more than 200 games.

Atkins joined his hometown team in March 1968 in a swap deal.

Denis played more than 100 games for Bradford City over four seasons until he retired to become a teacher.

Atkins briefly returned to the club to act as liaison officer between City and local schools and junior football.

His eldest daughter is Jill Atkins, a member of the Great Britain hockey team.

Denis Atkins passed away at 77 years old.
