Schiedam

He was a Dutch artist.

Van Golden has been active as painter, photographer, collagist, installation artist, wall painter, and graphic artist.

He was known for his meticulous paintings of motives and details of everyday life and everyday images.

He was initially trained as a fitter at a technical school from 1948 to 1950.

On Sundays, Daniel received painting lessons from a Jesuit priest who was attached to the school.

From 1954 to 1959, Daniel attended the evening courses at the Rotterdam Academy of Visual Arts (now Willem de Kooning Academy) at the painting department, where he also took classes in graphic art and design.

He started working as an independent artist in Schiedam in 1961.

At first, Van Golden was concerned with action painting and painted ferocious work with thickly applied black paint.

During 1963, Van Golden made a trip to Japan.

While he was in Japan came into contact with meditation and he realized that the human mind can find peace in watching simple form carefully.

During the early 1990s, Golden turned to depicting silhouettes of photos and portraits.

Van Golden copied painted profiles of Mozart.

The silhouette paintings were mostly made in several versions by him.

His personal style makes each painting unique, despite the compositional similarities with other paintings.

Before his death, in early 2017 van Golden was still active. Via a meticulous way of working, he made an average of only 3 to 4 pieces per year – He seldom exhibited little and was regarded as a mysterious artist.

Daan van Golden passed away at 80 years old.
