Noelie Dasouza Machado was born on December 25, 1929, Shanghai, China, and died on December 18, 2016.
She was known as China Machado.
She was a fashion model, an editor and television producer.
Machado was the first non-white person to appear on the cover of a major American fashion magazine, in the February 1959 issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
She was married to French actor Martin LaSalle; they later divorced.
Together the couple had two daughters: Blanche and Emmanuelle.
Later, she remarried, to Riccardo Rosa, who survives her, along with her daughters.
She died at Stony Brook University Hospital.
China Machado passed away at 86 years old.
