Albert “Ankles” Bennett was born on July 16, 1944, in Chester-le-Street and died on December 21, 2016.

Bennett played for Rotherham, Newcastle and Norwich as a centre-forward, he also represented England at under-23 level while at Rotherham.
Bennett was forced to retire due to injury in 1971 and had a spell as player-manager of Bury Town.
Albert spent his later life living in Norwich.
Bennett at one point ran a pub in Norwich, called the Elm Tavern.
Due to injury, Bennett was forced to retire after being substituted against Leicester City in February 1971.
