Yves Velan was born on August 29, 1925, in Saint-Quentin, Aisne and died on May 6, 2017.

He was a Swiss writer from Bassins.

Yves Velan studied literature at Lausanne, where he joined the Society of Belles Lettres, and worked two years as a reader at the University of Florence.

Yves Velan founded with others the leftist literary magazine Rencontre (1949–1952).

His work was crowned by the Grand Prix C. F. Ramuz and the literature prize of the canton of Neuchâtel.

Yves Velan passed away at 91 years old.
