Yuriy Eduardovich Dumchev/Юрий Эдуардович Думчев was born on August 5, 1958, and died on February 10, 2016, in Adler.

He was a Russian track and field athlete from the Soviet Union.

He set the world record in the men’s discus throw on May 29, 1983, with a distance of 71.86 metres.

That record has been exceeded by current record-holder Jürgen Schult in July 1986, is still the Russian record.

A 1980 Olympian, he represented the Soviet Union at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, finishing in fourth place (66.42 m).

Yuriy Dumchev passed away at 57 yrs old.
