Yochanan Sofer was born in 1923, in Eger, Hungary and died on February 22, 2016.

He was the Rebbe of the Erlau dynasty.

Even though not the largest in the number of its adherents is still a significant movement within Haredi Judaism.

His father and grandfather also served as Grand Rabbis.

Following his survival of the Holocaust, Sofer continued their legacy by founding a yeshiva and a movement in their name, first in Hungary and then a few years later in Jerusalem, Israel.

Yochanan Sofer passed away at 93 yrs old.
