Yevgeny Aleksandrovich Yevtushenko was born on July 18, 1932, and died on April 1, 2017.

He was a Soviet and Russian poet.

Yevtushenko was also a novelist, essayist, dramatist, screenwriter, publisher, actor, editor and director of several films.

He was known for his many alleged liaisons.

He was married four times: in 1954 he married Bella Akhmadulina.

Bella published her first collection of lyrics in 1962. After divorce he married Galina Sokol-Lukonina.

His third wife was English translator Jan Butler (married in 1978) and his fourth Maria Novikova whom he married in 1986.

Yevtushenko had five sons: Dmitry, Sasha, Pyotr, Anton and Yevgeny.

Yevtushenko’s wife teaches Russian at Edison Preparatory School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He had also spent half the year at the University of Tulsa, lecturing on poetry and European cinema.

He died at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Yevtushenko’s son Eugene reported that Yevtushenko had been diagnosed with cancer about six years ago and that he had undergone surgery to remove part of a kidney, but the disease had returned recently.

Yevgeny Yevtushenko passed away at 84 years old.
