Yaakov Neeman was born on September 16, 1939, and died on January 1, 2017.

He was an Israeli lawyer and for separate spans the Minister of Justice and Minister of Finance.

He was born to a religious zionist family in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era.

Neeman was educated at the Midrashiat Noam high-school yeshiva and completed his military service in the Golani Brigade.

Neeman went on to study law at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, earning an LL.B in 1964.

During 1965, Neeman earned an LL.M from New York University, and in 1968, a LL.D.

Upon his return to Israel, in 1972 Neeman founded the law firm Herzog, Fox & Ne’eman, along with future president of Israel Chaim Herzog.

He was appointed Director General of the Finance Ministry in 1979, serving until 1981.

During June 1996, Neeman was appointed to the Israeli cabinet as Minister of Justice by Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, despite not being a member of the Knesset.

He lived in Jerusalem in the Talbiya section.

Neeman was survived by his wife and six children.

Yaakov Neeman passed away at 77 years old.
