William Donald Stiehl was born on December 3, 1925, in Belleville, Illinois and died on February 8, 2016.

He was an American federal judge.

Stiehl was in the United States Navy Lieutenant during World War II, from 1943 to 1946 and again from 1950 to 1952.

William Donald Stiehl received an LL.B. from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1949.

Judge Stiehl was in private practice in Belleville, Illinois from 1952 to 1986, then Assistant state’s attorney from 1956 to 1960.

William Donald Stiehl was the special assistant attorney general of State of Illinois from 1970 to 1973.

Stiehl was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

The Judge was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on May 14, 1986, to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333.

William Donald Stiehl was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 13, 1986, and received his commission on June 16, 1986.

The judge also served as chief judge from 1992-1993.

William Donald Stiehl assumed senior status on November 30, 1996.

William Donald Stiehl passed away at 90 yrs old.
