Walter McGowan was born on October 13, 1942, in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland and died on February 15, 2016.

He was a Scottish boxer.

Walter was renowned for having been linear world flyweight champion.

His father Thomas McGowan, who had boxed under the name of ‘Joe Gans’.

Walter McGowan was a skillful boxer, who showed brilliant footwork and knew how to use the ring.

Nevertheless, the boxer suffered throughout his career with cuts, often having fights stopped despite being ahead on points.

He had to fail so that he would, he would have had an even more successful career.

He was the 1961 ABA Flyweight Champion.
