Vilgot Larsson, Swedish hockey player, Died at 83

Vilgot Larsson was born on May 3, 1932, and died on December 21, 2015.

He was a Swedish former hockey player of Leksands IF and the Tre Kronor.

Larsson started playing as a junior in Leksand, 1948 and then continued with the club’s first team until 1964.

During his time in Leksand, met with Åke Lassas.

Larsson was estimated to have been one of the most skilled skaters of all times in the highest series in the Swedish hockey.

He practiced on a two mile track, daily by skiing between Leksand and Rättvik as his exercise, a distance of over two mil way.

He was a prominent member behind Leksand successful youth ice hockey and was juniortränare for Leksand.

In 1957, he was the world champion in ice hockey and it is said that he threw himself and stopped the puck with his forehead in the final minutes of the match against the Soviet Union, after Sweden managed to turn 2-4 to 4-4 and secured the gold medals.

Larsson participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1956 in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Vilgot Larsson was awarded merits for 248 matches for Leksands IF, the World Championship gold = European Championship 1957, the World Championship bronze 1958 with the European Championships silver, VM-fifth in 1955 with the European Championship bronze, VM-fifth in 1959 with the European Championship bronze and Olympic four 1956 with the European Championships silver.

Vilgot Larsson passed away at 83 yrs old.
