He was a Vietnamese politician.
Khải served as the fifth Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from 25 September 1997 to 27 June 2006.
Phan Văn Khải was born near Saigon in French Indochina.
Already during his youth, Phan Văn Khải worked in revolutionary organizations.
Following the end of the first Indochina War and the subsequent partition of the country, Pham Van Khai took the opportunity to emigrate to North Vietnam.
From 1954 to 1959, Phan Văn Khải studies and work on land reform in North Vietnam, Phan Văn Khải then studied languages, at the University of Economics in Moscow Soviet Union, until 1965.
After the war, Phan Văn Khải was temporary mayor of Ho Chi Minh City.
Phan served as Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, from September 24, 1997, to June 24, 2006,
Phan Văn Khải became the first Prime Minister of Vietnam to visit the United States, meeting with President George W. Bush.
On June 24, 2006, Khai announced his resignation, along with President Trần Đức Lương.
He died on 17 March 2018 at his home in Ho Chi Minh City.
