Vi Subversa, British musician, Died at 80

Frances Sokolov was born on June 20, 1935, and died on February 19, 2016.

she was well known by her stage name Vi Subversa,

She was the singer and guitarist of British anarcho-punk band Poison Girls.

Her parents were East-European Jewish.

Vi Subversa stayed in Israel for 2yrs in the late 1950s working in a ceramic pottery in Beersheba under Nehemia Azaz, before returning to the United Kingdom.

Vi had two children, Pete Fender (who’s real name was Daniel Sansom) and Gem Stone/ Gemma Sansom, who were both members of the punk bands Fatal Microbes and Rubella Ballet.

Her initial public singing was not with Poison Girls; it was as part of The Body Show at Sussex University in 1975.

At 44 years old in 1979, and a mother of two, Subversa released the first single with the Poison Girls.

Her choice of lyrics was written from a radical feminist punk perspective.

Vi was featured in the documentary film She’s a Punk Rocker.

Vi Subversa son published on facebook on the 19th February that she had died.

Vi Subversa passed away at 80 yrs old.
