James Vernon Handrahan was born on November 27, 1936, and died on November 2, 2016.

He was a Canadian pitcher in Major League Baseball.

Vern played his entire career for the Kansas City Athletics.

Handrahan was noted for being one of only three Major League Baseball players from Prince Edward Island, the others being 19th-century players George Wood and Henry Oxley.

Intiallly he was signed by the Milwaukee Braves as an amateur free agent in 1959.

Vern was later drafted by the Athletics from the Braves in the 1962 minor league draft.

Handrahan appeared in 34 games for the Athletics in 1964 and 1966, primarily as a relief pitcher.

Handrahan died in Charlottetown.

Vern Handrahan passed away at 79 years old.
