Vera Margrethe Henriksen (née Roscher Lund was born on March 22, 1927, and died on May 23, 2016.

She was a Norwegian novelist, playwright and non-fiction writer.

Vera was especially known for her historical novels and plays set in the Middle Ages.

Henriksen studied architecture at Yale University (1946 to 1948).

Vera Henriksen studied art history and journalism at Columbia University (1948 to 1949).

Vera Henriksen got married to shipping executive, Olav Gotfred Henriksen in 1948.

Vera resided in the United States from 1946 to 1963.

She wrote her first novel called Sølvhammeren (The Silver Hammer) which was published in 1961.

Then followed by Jærtegn (Miracle) in 1962 and Helgenkongen (The Saint King) in 1963.

During the 1970s, Vera wrote a novel series starting from the period after the Protestant Reformation, Trollsteinen from 1970, followed by Pilegrimsferd, Blåbreen, Staupet and Skjærsild, the last from 1977.

With her historical plays includes Asbjørn Selsbane from 1972, and Sverdet, first staged in 1974.

Henriksen has also written books for children and young adults.

She has an extraordinarily broad and extensive range of writings behind her, which left her mark in history.

Vera Henriksen was decorated Knight, First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1997

Vera Henriksen passed away at 89 yrs old.
