Venus Ramey was born on September 26, 1924, in Ashland, Kentucky and died on June 17, 2017.
She was an American beauty pageant contestant, and later an activist.
Venus Ramey won the Miss America competition in 1944.
Venus Ramey left Kentucky to work for the war effort in Washington, DC, and won the Miss District of Columbia pageant and then became Miss America in 1944.
Ramey was the first red-haired contestant to win the title.
Venus Ramey passed away at 92 years old.
