Venezuelan journalist and politician, Teodoro Petkoff, Died at 86

Teodoro Petkoff Malec was born on January 3, 1932, and died on October 31, 2018.

He was a Venezuelan politician, a former guerrilla, journalist and economist.

A standout amongst the most conspicuous lawmakers on the left in Venezuela, Petkoff started as a socialist yet floated towards progressivism during the 1990s.

Petkoff has been an unmistakable faultfinder of President Hugo Chávez and was a contender to keep running against him in the December 2006 presidential races, however, dropped out of the race in August to help Manuel Rosales.

Petkoff propelled the daily paper Tal Cual in 2000 and remains its manager.

Petkoff’s dad was a Bulgarian settler and his mom was a Pole of Jewish inception.

Petkoff got a Bachelor certificate in Economics from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) where he likewise filled in as a teacher for a long time.

During the 60’s, alongside his sibling Luben Petkoff he was a guerrilla warrior under the order of Douglas Bravo against the administration of Rómulo Betancourt. Afterward, Petkoff participated in the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV).

During 1971, he left the PCV to establish, alongside different protesters, the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS).

Petkoff was an individual from Congress and twice an unsuccessful contender for president, picking up 4% in the Venezuelan presidential decision, 1983 and 3% in the Venezuelan presidential race, 1988.

During December 2012, while on the island of Margarita, he suffered a fall and sustained injuries that required surgery.

Teodoro Petkoff Malec passed away at 86 years old.
