Vasyl Slipak, Ukrainian opera singer, Died at 41

Vasyl Yaroslavovych Slipak was born on December 20, 1974, in Lviv Oblast, and died on June 29, 2016.

He was a Ukrainian baritone opera singer.

As of 1994, he frequently performed in France at such venues as Paris Opera and Opéra de la Bastille.

Throughout his career, Slipak received several awards, including “Best Male Performance” for the Toreador Song.

He started singing at a early age and at age 11, Slipak joined the Lviv children’s choir group Dudarik.

Then he received his education at the Lviv Conservatory.

At the conservatory, Slipak participated in a vocal contest in the French city of Clermont, winning the contest.

During 1996, Slipak received an invitation to perform at Opéra de la Bastille in Paris.

He graduated in 1997 from the Lysenko Music Academy in Lviv and then was invited to the Paris Opera where he became an opera singer.

Approximately 6 a.m, on June 29, 2016 Slipak was killed by a sniper shot near Luhansk.

Vasyl Slipak passed away at 41 yrs old.
