Valerio Zanone was born on January 22, 1936, in Turin, and died on January 7, 2016.
He was an Italian politician.
He was secretary and president of the Italian Liberal Party.
Zanone was also a senator of the Democratic Party.
Valerio has been mayor of Turin from 1990 to 1991.
Valerio graduated in philosophy at the University of Turin.
Following his entry in the Italian Liberal Party (Partito Liberale Italiano, PLI), he was the regional councillor in Piedmont, and then the member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies from 1976 (being confirmed until 1994).
Zanone was appointed as the national secretary of PLI, and was later president of the same, in 1976
In 1985, he was appointed the Minister of Ecology in the first Bettino Craxi cabinet, and later was Minister of Industry under Craxi’s second tenure from 1986 to 1987, and the Minister of Defence in Giovanni Goria and Ciriaco De Mita cabinets from the year 1987–1989.
Valerio Zanone was also mayor of Turin for a year and a half from the year 1990 to 1991.
After the Tangentopoli scandal and the dissolution of PLI, he formed a centre-left movement in Piedmont (Unione Liberal democratic).
After that, he participated in the foundation of L’Ulivo coalition and adhered to The Daisy centre party.
Valerio Zanone passed away at 79 yrs old.
