Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt, dubt as the world’s fastest man, bon on the 21 of August 1986. He is the first man to hold both the 100 metres and 200 metres world records since fully automatic time measurements became mandatory in 1977. Along with his teammates, he also set the world record in the 4×100 metres relay; he is also the first man to win over 5 Olympic gold medals in sprinting. Bolt’s achievements in sprinting have earned him the media nickname “Lightning Bolt”.

 

Usain Bolt was born in Sherwood Content,a district in Trelawny, Jamaica, and grew up with his parents, Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt, his brother Sadiki, and his sister Sherine, he attended Waldensia Primary, where he first began to show his sprinting potential, running in the annual national primary-schools’ meeting for his parish where he became the schools fastest runner in the 100m races. As a youngster he was mostly interested in sports, spending time playing football, cricket and basketball.

 

At one time he considered a career as a cricketer, but, his natural talent for sprinting shone through and so he was encouraged to take the path of sprinting. He moved on to William Knibb Memorial High School where upon noticing his speed he was encouraged to join the track and field team where he has been successful ever since. Bolt won his first annual high school championships medal in 2001, taking the silver medal in the 200 metres with a time of 22.04 seconds.

At 17 he ran the event in 19.93 sec, becoming the first teenager to break 20 seconds in the race. However, hampered by a hamstring injury, he failed to advance beyond the 200-metre heats at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, and placed last in the 2005 world track-and-field championships final. At the 2009 world championships, Bolt shattered his 100-metre record, winning the event final in 9.58 sec. Four days later he broke his own 200-metre record by the same 0.11-sec margin to win a second gold medal at the world championships.

 

Usain also qualified for the World Championships in the 100 meters and 200 meters by winning both events at the Jamaican National Championships. His time in the 100 was a sparkling 9.86. In the run-up to the season’s grand event, Usain turned in times of 19.59 in the 200 (on a wet track) and a 9.79 in the 100. Later he claimed to be only 85 percent of where he thought he could be in Berlin.Usain went after his sixth career gold medal a few days later in the 4 x 100 relay. He joined Blake, Michael Frater and Nesta Carter to smash Jamaica’s year-old world record with a time of 36.84 seconds.

 

With all his many achievements, he has his own clothing line in conjunction with Puma; his own watch made by Hublot; his own headphone range ‘Soul by Usain Bolt’; his own restaurant ‘Tracks & Records’ in Kingston, Jamaica; the ‘Usain Bolt Foundation’ and endorses some of the top brands in the world.
