Ueli Steck was born on October 4, 1976, and died on April 30, 2017.

He was a Swiss rock climber and mountaineer.

Ueli Steck won two Piolet d’Or awards, in 2009 and 2014.

Steck was also famous for his speed records on the North Face trilogy in the Alps.

He died while doing an acclimatizing climb for an attempt of the never-repeated Hornbein route on the West Ridge of Everest without supplemental oxygen.

Ueli Steck passed away at 40 years old.
