Turid Karlsen Seim was born on October 8, 1945, in Bergen, Norway and died on November 3, 2016, in Oslo.

She was a Norwegian doctor of theology, and, from 1991 until her death, the professor of New Testament theology at the University of Oslo.

During 1990, she was the first Norwegian woman to earn a theological doctorate.

During the same year, she became the first woman dean of the University of Oslo.

As of 1991 onward, Seim was a professor of theology for the New Testament at the Faculty of Theology there.

She had key positions in national and international ecumenical work.

Seim was a member of the World Council of Churches commission of Faith and Order from 1991 and member of the International Roman Catholic/Lutheran dialogue from 1995.

Between 1997 to 2001, she was head of the Board of Culture and Social Research Council.

Seim has written books and articles on New Testament themes.

Seim became a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 2009.

During 2015, Turid Karlsen Seim was awarded The Christian Council ecumenism prize.

From 2007 to 2015, Turid Karlsen Seim was Head of the Norwegian Institute in Rome.

Turid Karlsen Seim passed away at 71 years old.
