Anthony McVay “Tony” Simpson was born on July 8, 1936, and died on March 1, 2016.

He was better known by his stage name Tony Warren.

He was an English television screenwriter.

He was popular for creating the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.

Tony was also an actor, as well as creating other television dramas, and wrote critically acclaimed novels.

He acted on stage and in several early ITV Plays of the Week.

Tony Warren has won a number of awards all in relation to devising Coronation Street.

Mr.Warren received the Special Achievement Award in Soap at the British Soap Awards 2000 and the National Television landmark award followed in 2005.

Tony Warren most recent accolade was at the Royal Television Society awards in which he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award.

Critics also labelled the show as “the most successful television programme in British history”.

He was appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire, in 1994.

Tony Warren passed away at 79 yrs old.
