Tony Mottram, British tennis player, Died at 96

Anthony John “Tony” Mottram was born on June 8, 1920, in Coventry, and died on October 6, 2016.

He was a British tennis player of the 1940s and 1950s.

Tony reached the quarterfinal of the 1948 Wimbledon Championships in which he lost to Gardnar Mulloy.

Mottram was the father of tennis champion Buster Mottram.

During the doubles event he reached the final of the 1947 Wimbledon Championships with Bill Sidwell in which they were defeated by the first-seeded team of Jack Kramer and Bob Falkenburg.

Tony Mottram appeared as a “castaway” on the BBC Radio programme Desert Island Discs on June 14, 1955.

Tony Mottram passed away at 96 years old.
