Thomas J. “Tommy” Hanson Jr. was born on August 28, 1986, and died on November 9, 2015 due to multiple organ failure.

He was an American professional baseball pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Thomas played for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

He was considered by Baseball America to be the top prospect in the Braves’ farm system heading into the 2009 season.

Thomas made his MLB debut with Atlanta that season, and played with the Braves through 2012.

He pitched his final season in 2013 with the Angels, who had acquired him in a trade.

Thomas was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After moving to California at a very young age, Thomas graduated from Redlands East Valley High School in Redlands, California, in June 2004, electing to continue his post-secondary education at Riverside Community College.

He played for the Corvallis Knights in the West Coast League, an independent summer collegiate baseball league.

In 2005, Thomas was selected in the 22nd round (677th overall pick) by the Atlanta Braves as a draft-and-follow pick.

Thomas played Little League baseball in Victorville, California under Little League coach Steve Cooper.

He also played his freshman year of high school baseball at Silverado High School in Victorville, California before transferring to Redlands East Valley.

Thomas was drafted out of Riverside Community College in Riverside, California.

Thomas passed away at age 29 in November 2015.
