Tom Raworth, British poet, Died at 78

Thomas Moore Raworth was born on July 19, 1938, and died on February 8, 2017.

He was known as Tom Raworth.

He was a British poet and visual artist.

He published over forty books of poetry and prose during his life.

Tom’s work has been translated and published in many countries.

He was a key figure in the British Poetry Revival.

He was plagued by ill-health during most of his life.

During the 1950s, Tom was one of the first patients ever to survive open heart surgery.

During the fall of 2016, Tom began cancer treatments.

However, on January 23, 2017, he wrote on his blog that his, – “cancer had badly metastasized…to bone marrow, liver, right lung, kidney and small bowel. Nothing to be done except palliative care… So that’s it. I can’t see I shall ever get back here… Bits of it all have been fun and it’s been a decent run”.

Tom Raworth left behind his wife Val Raworth who said: “Tom died this afternoon, peacefully, his family around him.

Tom Raworth passed away at 78 years old.
