Tilicho Lake

Tilicho Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world. It is 4,919 m high in the Annapurna range of the Himalayas in Manang district of Nepal. Trekkers attempting the Annapurna Circuit route usually cross the watershed between Manang and Kali Gandaki valleys over the 5414 meters high Thorong La pass.

 

The alternate route skirting Tilicho Lake from the north has been gaining popularity. This route is more demanding and requires at least one night of camping. There are no teahouses or lodges past the Tilicho Base Camp lodge some kilometers east of the lake and the next village of Thini Gaon in the Kali Gandaki valley.

 

The Tilicho Lake Trek starts right from Besisahar as Annapurna Circuit Trekking, which goes along the Marsyangdi River, with great views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east. For the lovers of nature it is a magnificent view and real opportunity to see a lake at this altitude also it is famous for religious point of view.

 

The trail goes to Yak Kharka and joins the normal route crossing the Thorong la Pass (5416m). Also you will visit Muktinath via Plateau of Kagbeni and return to Jomsom. On the way you would have passed through every type of vegetation zone from lush sub-tropical to harsh semi-desert and passed over one of the highest trekking passes in the world.

 

Tilicho Lake collects the ice melt of the surrounding mountains and glaciers including Tilichio peak and Tilichio Glacier. It is one of the highest lakes in the world with its surface being at 4990m.

In 2001, Hindu pilgrims from around the world flocked to the lake convinced it was a holy spot mentioned in the Ramayan – a holy book of the Hindus. The trail flow Marshangdi river entire trial up to Tilicho Lake and with grand views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east part.

 

The Manang village is the tourist hub place for Annapurna circuit and Tilicho lake trekking. Here you can get facilities of telephone, internet, money exchange, small sopping, high altitude hospital, German bakery and more. In Manang inhabited the Tibetan religious people and they have different culture and customs.

 

This trek starts right from Besisahar which goes along the Marshyangdi River, with great views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east. This magnificent trek leads you to the fine village inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups, offering spectacular and majestic views of the white Himalayas.

 

There are customized route as it is basically the same as Annapurna Circuit, from Manang instead of taking the valley north to Tanki Manang and Yak Kharka this route goes to the main valley to the west passes through the Khanshar Village (The Last Village of Nepal) and trek up to Tilicho lake, then you will travel to Yak Kharka then up to pass of Thorung La at elevation of 5,416m. Going to the lake and back the same, but you will not have the time and spirit to enjoy this magic place.
