Thomas George Doran was born on February 20, 1936, in Rockford, Illinois and died on September 1, 2016.

He was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church.

Doran served as the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Rockford, Illinois from 1994 to 2012.

He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Martin John O’Connor on December 20, 1961, in St. Peter’s Basilica.

He served in many administrative, judicial, and pastoral capacities before returning to Rome in 1975 to complete a doctorate in canon law, which he earned in 1978.

His resignation as bishop, which he submitted on his 75th birthday as required by Canon 401 ยง1 of the Code of Canon Law, was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI on March 20, 2012.

Thomas G. Doran was succeeded by David John Malloy.

Thomas G. Doran passed away at 80 years old.
