Tammy Lee Grimes was born on January 30, 1934, and died on October 30, 2016.
She was an American actress and singer.
Grimes won two Tony Awards in her career, the first for originating the role of Molly Tobin in the musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown.
Later, the musical was made into a film of the same name starring Debbie Reynolds, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the role.
She won her second Tony Award for starring in a 1970 revival of Private Lives as Amanda Prynne.
Grimes also originated the role of Diana in the Broadway production of California Suite.
That role of Diana was played in the film by Maggie Smith who won an Oscar for her performance.
She played the role of Elmire in the 1978 Broadway and television production of Tartuffe.
Grimes originated roles in several works by Noël Coward, including Elvira in High Spirits and Lulu in Look After Lulu!.
During 1966, Tammy starred in her own television series, The Tammy Grimes Show.
She was also known for her cabaret acts.
When she died, Tammy Grimes was divorced from Academy Award-winning actor Christopher Plummer. T
Her daughter is actress Amanda Plummer.
And all three have had the distinction of being Tony Award winners.
During 2003, Grimes was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.
