T. K. Whitaker, Irish economist and public servant, Died at 100


Thomas Kenneth “Ken” Whitaker was born on December 8, 1916, in Rostrevor, County Down and died on January 9, 2017.

He was an Irish economist and former public servant.

He was credited with a pivotal role in the economic development of Ireland.

He was a Centenarian.

He received many national and international honours and tributes for his achievements during his lifetime, most notably the conferral of “Irishman of the 20th Century” in 2001 and Greatest Living Irish Person in 2002.

He was married Nora Fogarty in 1941; they had six children; Brian, David, Ken, Gerry, Catherine, and Raymond.

When she died in 1994, he married Mary Moore in 2005.

Whitaker and Mary were invited to Áras an Uachtaráin for his 90th birthday by the President of Ireland.

In December 2016, Dr. Whitaker turned 100.
