Sylvia Athayde died on the October 21, 2015.

She was a Brazilian professor.

Sylvia Athayde took over the MAB, which includes the Directorate of Museums of Art and Cultural Heritage Institute (IPAC) in 1991, remaining until March 2015.

Athayde received several honors, such as the Portuguese Order of Prince Henry, the degree of Comendadora, for services to Portuguese culture (June 2000) and the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante D. Henrique in May 2007.

Athayde was a Museology course professor at UFBA, from the year 1973 to 1997.

Sylvia served as coordinator and deputy coordinator of the Museology Course of the Board 1974-1976 and coordinated and implemented the project Desenbanco Arts Center.

Athayde, museologist, professor at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and former director of the Bahia Art Museum (BAM).

Athayde was a active member of the National Commission of Museums, established by the Minister Francisco Weffort in 1994; with the Council of Culture of the Bahia Commercial Association; the Board of the State of Bahia Culture (1979-1983-1987); Judging Commission (appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture) to recognize the Museology Course of Integrated College Estacio de Sa, Rio de Janeiro, in 1981; the Portuguese Association of Museology and the Board of Trustees of the Pierre Verger Foundation.

Sylvia Athaydeb passed away at 75 yrs old due to cholangiocarcinoma.
