Syed Shamsul Haq was born on December 27, 1935, and died on September 27, 2016.

He was a Bangladeshi poet, lyricist and writer.

Haque was awarded Bangla Academy Award in 1966, Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Independence Day Award in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh.

He wrote poetry, fiction, plays (mostly in verse), Music lyrics and essays.

Haque’s literary works were included in the curriculum of school level, secondary, higher secondary and graduation level Bengali literature in Bangladesh.

Syed the youngest among all to receive the Bangla Academy Award at age of 31 in 1966.

He was married to Anwara Syed Haq.

His wife was a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London.

They have one daughter, Bidita Sadiq, and one son, Ditio Syed Haq.

He died from lung cancer.

Syed Shamsul Haque passed away at 81 years old.
