Sunil Lal Joshi, Nepalese Olympic weightlifter, Died at 51

Sunil Lal Joshi was born on June 14, 1966 and died on June 25, 2017.

He was a Nepalese weightlifter from Kathmandu.

He represented Nepal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he competed in the men’s super-heavyweight category.

While he participated the 1996 Olympics, he placed seventeenth in this event, as he successfully lifted 120 kg in the snatch, and hoisted 162.5 kg from his third and final attempt in the clean and jerk, for a total of 282.5 kg.

He went on to become the chief coach of weightlifting at the National Sports Council.

Joshi joined as a coach on September 17, 1995 and was promoted to senior coach on 5 January 2006.

After he complained of respiratory problems on June 22, 2017, he was taken to the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in Kathmandu.

He died three days later of a heart attack.

Joshi was survived by his wife and son.

Sunil Lal Joshi passed away at 51 years old.
