Steve Tupper, Canadian sailor, Died at 75

Steve Tupper was born on February 6, 1941, and died on July 4, 2016.

He was a Canadian sailor.

Steve Tupper competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics.

Tupper was a noted member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club for over 65 years.

He maintained his membership his junior sailing program by building and racing his own flattie (Geary 18).

Steve also raced sabots, Comets, Lightnings and Davidson dinghys, later graduating to Dragons where he finished fourth in the 1968 Mexico Olympics.

His participation in World Sailing (then ISAF) began with the Boardsailing Committee, but he moved on to become a member and eventually chair of the Race Officials Committee.

During 2002, Steve was awarded the Rolex Canadian Sailor of the Year award for his years of service and in 2004, he received the World Sailing’s Gold Medal for Service.

He died due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Steve Tupper passed away at 75 years old.
