Stella Sutherland was born on October 7, 1924, and died on October 15, 2015.

Stella was one of the prominent Shetland writers of the late 20th and early 21st century.

Best known for poetry in both English and Shetland dialect, she also contributed articles and short stories to local magazines, especially The New Shetlander.

Stella was born in Bressay in 1924.

Her early years were spent in Sandwick, on the Shetland mainland, her teenage years in the island of Foula.

As a young woman, Stella worked in Lerwick, before her marriage in 1949 to Bressay farmer Laurence Sutherland.

Stella died in Lerwick on October 15, 2015.
