Staryl Chester Austin, Jr., born September 16, 1920, and died on January 1, 2015.

He was a brigadier general in the United States Air Force.

Staryl was a P-47 pilot during World War II.

He later joined the Oregon Air National Guard.

Staryl commanded the 142nd Fighter Group and was Assistant Adjutant General of Oregon.

After leaving military service, he served as the director of the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Staryl was a member of the Oregon Aviation Hall of Honor.

He was born in Condon, Oregon, on September 16, 1920.

Staryl family lived in a number of Oregon towns while he was growing up.

As a result, Staryl attended school in Bend, Albany, and Salem.

He graduated from Salem High School in 1938.

After graduation, he went to work in his father’s automobile painting business.

Staryl Chester Austin, Jr. passed away at age 94 in Salem on January 1, 2015.
