Spencer Hays was born on July 14, 1936, in Ardmore, Oklahoma and died on March 1, 2017.

He was an American businessman and art collector.

He was the majority owner and chairman of the executive committee of the Southwestern Company.

Spencer and his wife, he made the biggest foreign donation to the Musée d’Orsay since World War II in 2016.

Hays grew up in Gainesville, Texas.

He played basketball in high school.

Hays attended Texas Christian University on a basketball scholarship.
